Indian Railways is set to introduce an upgraded version of the Amrit Bharat, known as Amrit Bharat 2.0. This LHB push-pull train will feature non-air-conditioned coaches and a dedicated locomotive for pulling the train. The train will offer enhanced amenities for passengers, including stylish seats, improved luggage racks, mobile charging points with convenient holders, LED lights, CCTV, and a public information system.

Some additional features of the Amrit Bharat 2.0 include semi-automatic couplers for easy attachment and detachment, crashworthy design, an electro-pneumatic assisted brake system for quick braking, a fully sealed gangway for efficient coupling and decoupling, and a vacuum evacuation system similar to the Vande Bharat. The train will also have toilets made with maintenance-friendly SMC material, with one specially designed for passengers with disabilities, as well as an automatic hygiene odor control system.

Other features include an on-board condition monitoring system for real-time monitoring of wheels and bearings, IoT-based water level indicators, external emergency lights for safety during emergencies, USB charging ports, fans with stainless steel grills, LED lighting, a public address system, and a Tejas-type gangway. The train will also be equipped with an aerosol-based fire suppression system in toilets and electrical cubicles.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that 50 Amrit Bharat Version 2.0 trains will be manufactured in the next two years at the Integral Coach Factory. These trains are aimed at providing affordable and high-quality travel experiences for low-income and low-middle-income families traveling long distances.

During an interview with PTI Videos, Vaishnaw explained that the Amrit Bharat train was specifically designed to offer a comfortable travel experience, even for those who may be considered economically disadvantaged.

The Amrit Bharat has been designed based on the experience gained from the Vande (Bharat) Sleeper and the initial version of the Amrit Bharat that was launched in 2024. The general coach is equipped with various features such as comfortable seats, charging points, mobile phone holders, water bottle holders, and more.
