IPL 2025: During a recent BCCI meeting in Mumbai, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla announced that the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kick off on March 23. Additionally, Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia have been elected unopposed as the new secretary and treasurer of the BCCI, respectively, filling the roles previously held by Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar.
In the IPL auction, Arshdeep Singh sparked a bidding war among six franchises in Jeddah. Despite Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) making a bid of Rs 15.75 crore, Punjab Kings (PBKS) retained the pacer by exercising the RTM option and spending Rs 18 crore.
The intensity continued as IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant entered the auction. Iyer was acquired by PBKS for Rs 26.75 crore, while Pant made history by becoming the most expensive player in IPL history after being bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 27 crore.
Shukla also announced that a meeting to select the Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy is scheduled for January 18 or 19. The ICC’s deadline for submitting provisional squads is January 12, with only England, New Zealand, and Bangladesh having announced their squads so far.
