Ola Electric Launches Gig and S1 Z Range of Electric Scooters: Prices Start at Just Rs 39,999 – Is This Future of Urban Mobility?

Ola Electric, the electric scooter manufacturer, announced the launch of its new Gig and S1 Z range of scooters on November 26. These scooters are “designed to unlock the full potential of electric mobility for everyone.” The lineup includes the Ola Gig, Ola Gig+, Ola S1 Z, and Ola S1 Z+, offered at introductory prices of Rs 39,999 (ex-showroom), Rs 49,999 (ex-showroom), Rs 59,999 (ex-showroom), and Rs 64,999 (ex-showroom), respectively. Reservations for both the Gig and S1 Z series have begun at a fee of just Rs 499 from November 26. According to a press release from Ola Electric, the new scooters provide durable, dependable, economical, and flexible options, including removable batteries, to meet personal and commercial needs in rural, semi-urban, and urban areas.

With this new product range, alongside its existing offerings, Ola Electric aims to transform access to electric vehicles by providing a variety of affordable options across different categories, targeting a wide array of customers and making electric mobility accessible to everyone. Deliveries for the Ola Gig and Ola S1 Z series are set to start in April and May 2025, respectively.

Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, stated: “At Ola, we are dedicated to promoting the electric vehicle revolution throughout every corner of the country. The introduction of the Ola Gig and S1 Z range of scooters will help us enhance EV adoption, addressing various personal and commercial usage scenarios, with affordability, reliability, and safety as our foundational principles. Our new scooters also come equipped with portable batteries that can serve as inverters using the Ola PowerPod to power household appliances, promoting a more efficient use of our batteries. With the introduction of the Ola Gig and Ola S1 Z scooters, along with our current EV lineup, we are well-positioned to drive India towards a future without internal combustion engines.” On November 26, shares of Ola Electric Mobility closed up by 5.5% at Rs 73.42 each.

Ola Gig

Designed for gig workers making shorter trips, the Ola Gig scooter features a sturdy design, sufficient range, removable battery, sufficient payload capacity, and reliable safety features. It boasts an IDC-certified range of 112 km and a maximum speed of 25 km/h. Equipped with a removable 1.5 kWh battery, hub motor, and 12-inch tyres for improved braking, the Ola Gig is available for B2B purchases and rentals at an introductory price of Rs 39,999.

Ola Gig+

Targeted at gig workers who travel farther and carry heavier loads, the Ola Gig+ scooter can reach speeds of 45 km/h. It has removable batteries, either single or dual, each with a capacity of 1.5 kWh, offering an IDC-certified range of 81 km (or 157 km with dual batteries). The scooter is powered by a hub motor with a peak output of 1.5 kW, enabling users to maintain optimal city speeds and complete orders more quickly, according to the company. The Ola Gig+ is available for B2B purchases and rentals at an introductory price of Rs 49,999.

Ola S1 Z

The Ola S1 Z is an electric scooter designed for urban commuters who prioritize style, performance, and convenience. It provides a lightweight, easy-to-handle experience for smooth navigation on crowded city and semi-urban roads, as per Ola Electric. This scooter features removable dual batteries of 1.5 kWh each, offering an IDC-certified range of 75 km (or 146 km with dual batteries), and reaches a top speed of 70 km/h. It comes with an LCD display and a physical key. Powered by a 2.9 kW hub motor, it can accelerate from 0-20 km/h in 1.8 seconds and from 0-40 km/h in 4.8 seconds. With the S1 Z, Ola Electric seeks to provide an exceptional alternative to entry-level ICE models, appealing to young professionals, students, women, and seniors. The introductory price for the Ola S1 Z is Rs 59,999.

Ola S1 Z+

The Ola S1 Z+ is a dual-use electric scooter suitable for both personal and light commercial applications, built with a robust structure and high payload capacity, ideal for commuting in urban, semi-urban, and rural environments. The company describes this scooter as sturdy and durable, designed for long-lasting performance, meeting the needs of small business owners, local shopkeepers, and individuals engaged in light to medium commercial work.

Equipped with removable dual batteries of 1.5 kWh each, the S1 Z+ offers an IDC-certified range of 75 km (or 146 km with dual batteries), a maximum speed of 70 km/h, 14-inch tyres, an LCD display, and a physical key. It is powered by a 2.9 kW hub motor, achieving speeds of 0-20 km/h in 1.8 seconds and 0-40 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The introductory price for the Ola S1 Z+ is Rs 64,999.

Ola PowerPod

The Ola PowerPod serves as a versatile and dependable power source. It allows Ola’s portable battery to function as an inverter that can power small household appliances, lights, fans, and other essential devices. The PowerPod offers a maximum output of 500W and a 1.5 kWh battery, capable of powering five LED bulbs, three ceiling fans, one TV, one mobile phone, and one Wi-Fi router for up to three hours. This dual functionality provides a significant advantage for users in semi-urban and rural areas where stable electricity may be scarce, advancing the mission of delivering sustainable energy solutions to all. The PowerPod is priced at Rs 9,999.

Alongside the Ola Gig and Ola S1 Z range, Ola Electric currently maintains an extensive S1 scooter lineup, featuring six models across various attractive price points, catering to diverse range needs. The premium options, S1 Pro and S1 Air, are priced at Rs 1,34,999 and Rs 1,07,499, respectively, while mass-market choices include the S1 X series (2 kWh, 3 kWh, and 4 kWh), priced at Rs 74,999, Rs 87,999, and Rs 1,01,999, respectively.

The company also introduced its Roadster motorcycle series, which includes models such as Roadster X (offering 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, 4.5 kWh), Roadster (3.5 kWh, 4.5 kWh, 6 kWh), and Roadster Pro (8 kWh, 16 kWh). The motorcycles boast numerous segment-first technological and performance features, with prices starting from Rs 74,999, Rs 1,04,999, and Rs 1,99,999, respectively.
